Discover the beauty and exceptional richness of Doubs from our hotel and spa. With its hilly topography and vast wooded areas, it offers a stunning diversity in terms of landscape. Close to the Swiss border, you’ll find the area’s high point - the Mont d’Or (1463 m). Atop its cliffs, you’ll be able to see the peaks of the Alps in the distance and the many nearby lakes. At the foot of the mountain, appreciate the wonderfully preserved area of the Haut-Jura natural park in the south, while in the north, visit the shores of Lac de Saint-Point, the 3rd largest natural lake in France. Fed by the Doubs River, this body of water really is an angler’s paradise. Following the river’s path, you’ll discover other superb sites such as the Défilé d'Entre-Roches gorge or the Doubs waterfall. At 27 m tall, this stunning cascade of water is classified as one of France’s Grand National Sites.
As well as the fantastic regional capital of Besançon, Doubs has many other exceptional towns. In Ornans, walk along the Loue River in the footsteps of French realist painter Gustave Courbet. Then visit the Musée Courbet, château and Saint-Laurent church. In Baume-les-Dames, see the 18th century abbey church and in Pontarlier, visit the Château de Sandon and the Saint-Pierre gate. In Morteau, there’s the town hall and Château Pertusier, which houses a clock-making museum. In Montbéliard, visit the Château of the Dukes of Wurtemberg and Saint-Martin church, the oldest Lutheran church still operating in France.
On route, don’t forget to stop and try many of the local delicacies, including Morteau and Montbéliard sausages, cheeses (including Comté, Mont d'Or and Morbier), absinthe, sapin liqueur and Pontarlier anis.
